1961 triumph tr3 overdrive rare overdrive transmission

1961 Triumph TR-3. Fitted from the factory with the ultra rare overdrive transmission. I believe less than 10% of the cars were fitted with overdrive. This Triumph was restored years ago and has since been driven and enjoyed. Good TR3’s are very difficult to find. We purchased this TR from the older gentleman that owned it for many years. He was not able to run it as much as he wanted and decided to let it go. We spent some time and effort servicing it and getting it ready for the season. No issues to keep you from enjoying this TR3 this spring.

1961 Triumph TR3 Overdrive Perspective

Look at the photos of the bottom of this TR. The frame is absolutely straight; the floors are as new, the best original body and chassis we have seen on a TR3. Only very minor rust at bottom of r/h rear sill keeps it from being perfect. The oil pan is untouched; it looks as good on the bottom as it does the top. This TR that has been driven and taken care of all its life. The only reason we have it is because the gentleman that owned can no longer drive and enjoy it. You will be very pleased with this car. We all have taken it on a drive and it drives easy and true. The fact is, a well sorted British sports car is a significantly different than one that has been simply patched together. Pleasing, and a true joy to drive.

The paint is in very good condition. It is not show condition new as it has some years on the paint. However, it presents very well holds shine and gloss well. The chrome is good overall; some pieces need to be redone to match the caliber of the rest of the car, however most pieces show in excellent condition. The rubbers are in good condition and the top (hood) presents and functions well. With the red paint, this one is a looker. The white convertible top, side curtains and bow cover give this TR a really clean look.

Perfect Leather seats and an interior that is the epitome of British cars. Nice carpets and door panels complete the package. Dash is nice and all gauges work. Note the original funky factory overdrive switch fitted to the left hand side of the dash.

1961 Triumph TR3 Overdrive Mechanical

A solid TR. Equipped with a fully rebuilt engine that has new big bore 83 mm. pistons and liners. Has excellent oil pressure and cylinder pressures at 165lb across the board. Carburetors and distributor have been rebuilt and car is fully tuned and ready to drive. Transmission shifts well and is quiet in gear. Brakes are excellent and stop straight and true. Front suspension looks good and car drives very nicely down the road.

1961 Triumph TR3 Overdrive Tires & Wheels

Upgraded by us to new 15X6 Minilite style alloys that are the period correct type wheel. We have fitted them with 195/60 tires for better ride and added cornering power. The wheels make the car drive smoother and really set this TR off for an excellent sports car look.
