Fresh Interior

We offer for sale a beautiful driving 1965 Austin Healey BJ8. Since this is a garaged west coast car, this it has a wonderful body and great original rust-free chassis. It has benefited from loving, long-term ownership and was always maintained by Austin Healey specialists. It shows and drives exceptionally well due to great mechanical care. This car has a rebuilt engine and is upgraded to a 5 speed transmission for smooth shifting and relaxed, quiet highway cruising. The entire front suspension has also been freshly rebuilt including all bushes and new kingpins fitted. Because it is also fitted with new chrome wire wheels it has wonderfully smooth road manners as well. This car is ready to drive and enjoy. If you purchase the car and would like, we could keep the car here so you could fly in and participate in the national Austin Healey Rendezvous which is scheduled for Eugene June 28th-July 2 2010.

Paint & Body

Body is finished in the original Healey Blue. All body panels look to be original and only repairs are the typical lower rear fender doglegs. Single repaint over excellent body panels, it is done to a driver level quality that presents well with nice depth and gloss and only a few minor chips from car being driven and enjoyed. Entire chassis is very straight, rust and damage free. Car retains original floors and they are excellent. Hood, door, and trunk gaps are very good and no signs of any major accident damage ever. Even the hard to repair aluminum panels are in very good condition. Car rides on a set of Dayton 72 spoke chrome wire wheels with stainless spokes. Car presents well and retains solid driving due to great body and chassis integrity. Chrome is all in good condition and complements the paint. Trunk finished with the proper hardura material. There is a tonneau and top boot included with the car

Fronts seat are well fitted and properly padded in blue leather. All interior is fresh and new including carpets. Dash wood adds elegance to these BJ8 Healeys and is a beautiful burled walnut with chrome finishers. The top is a new dark blue vinyl as original. This is an attractive and inviting interior. A later radio has been neatly fitted along with a large trunk mounted amplifier.

Tires & Wheels

Engine was professionally rebuilt approximately 10,000 miles ago or less. A mild performance cam upgrade makes great power and torque yet idles reasonable and revs quick and smoothly. At the time of the engine rebuild, the transmission was upgraded to a Smitty 5 speed conversion. The Smitty kit allows the installation of a smooth shifting, strong and reliable, Toyota 5-speed. Thefront suspension has just recently been removed and all components have been cleaned, refinished, rebushed, and/or replaced with new parts. This makes for a perfect driving and handling Healey. Brakes are excellent and stop car straight and true. Car is ready to drive and enjoy.

The Bottom Side

A very smooth and cohesive car to drive. The 3 liter engine makes more power than most and the car is easy to drive and operate with the transmission upgrade. The suspension works well front and rear, and smoothly absorbs all but the harshest bumps. Steering and braking is accurate and as a new Healey would have been. With the BJ8 series, the passengers are provided with the benefits of roll up windows, an easy to operate top, and a more luxurious interior. Great sportscar for long distance touring. Solid driver BJ8 Austin Healeys are hard to find this nice and sorted. Since the car has been used, maintained, and driven it is well sorted and better than a lot of fresh restorations mechanically. This big Austin Healey provides great visuals without the mechanical complications of a Jaguar. They are and will always be sought after by people who like to drive and are a great addition to anyone’s garage.
