Abarth Record Monza Chassis Build

Eric is just starting on the rust repair on an Abarth Record Monza chassis. The hand made aluminum skins have been removed and this is the bare chassis. These were hand made cars and not particulary well sealed from the environment.

Austin Healey Hinges 100-4

Trent is restoring the hinges on an Austin Healey 100-4. We are fitting the body for the first assembly of many. The door fit on a Healey is critical. If the gaps change it ruins the lines of the car and door function can be an issue. We have seen lots of them done wrong, and it creates a real problem because it is so core to the car. Once it is painted and final assembled, trying to go back and correct door fit on a Healey is near impossible. They will change shape over time and the of course the pins wear and the pins are usually frozen in the hinge. Trent is reshaping them as well as installing new pins and bushings along with the correct Oilite bushings between the hinges. We make the new pins machine them for correct fit.

Austin Healey Transmission woes

Kai is currently dissasembling this tranmission from an Austin Healey 100-4. Part of a full restoration. It is an overdrive gearbox with the electrically activated overdrive. Sadly, this box has a lot of internal damage. The gear sets are worn and damaged. Not a lot to save here. New gears will be neccessary along with all the normal bearings bushings, syncros, and such.

Fiat 1200 TV top (hood) mechanism restoration.

Here Wade is fitting the top mechanism in its unrestored state to the Fiat 1200 TV body.  We will fit it before we take it apart and start restoring it, knowing we are starting from a good position.  Really quite a nicely engineered and built mechanism.

Fiat 1200 TV fuel tank restoration

Another Trent project, this is a fuel tank from the Fiat 1200 TV.  Freshly acid dipped, and now the repairs must be made.  Very common to find this kind of damage.  Impact damage and rust.

Siata Daina GS race car build

Trent is finishing up the Siata structure build. This is a heavily modified race car that we are building in the race setup. The structure was just too weak and we are forced to make upgrades to make it stable and safe.

Jensen Interceptor AC system

Kai is installed an updated more modern AC system into the Jensen interceptor build. I included a picture of the giant original pump. We will convert it to 134 from the original R12. This neccesitates a few modifications, but not many and we will work to make it look at home in the engine compartment. In this case, this car will be used and the AC system must deliver, which justifies the move from stock configuration.

55 Chevy power pump

Kai has been doing a lot of service and rebuild work on a very nice 55 Chevy. This is the power steering pump which mounts on the back of the generator. Full rebuild of the pump.

Austin Healely 100-4 Chassis and Body build

Trent has handed over the Austin Healey 100-4 build to Eric. Trent finished the core structures and rust repair. Eric is now fitting the wings and shrouds.

Porsche 356 A Metal Panels

On this Porsche 356 A, Eric is creating new metal panels for the areas that replacement panels are not available or do not do what we want. Eric creates dies to recreate unique shapes for some of the panels.

Fabricating our own bolts now.

Here Eric has constucted a mold to recreate some special bolts that hold on the windscreen of a Fiat 1200 TV. He made the mold to allow him to press and shape the metal to match the unique shape of the original bolts. Then he welded the actual bolt to the new head. After they are fitted, they will go off to chrome.

Jaguar E-type Floors

Part of a color change on an E-type Jaguar, we are doing a lot of metal work. Found quite a bit of damage once we got it stripped. Here Jeff is replacing the floors.

Jaguar XK 140 Body Build continues

Jaguar XK140. Adam and Jeff busy with a Jaguar XK140 build. Still quite a bit of metal work to do, but they get into a sealer as soon as they can to protet the raw metal..Some areas left in bare metal for further work.

Making Stuff

A couple of projects Trent is working on. The first is shrouds for the exhaust system for the Jensen. These are not original, we are fabricating them to look like they belong there with the goal of further limiting under hood temperature. The next little gadget is a collar that tightens the air cleaner to an Abarth 750cc motor on a Double Bubble. The strange little loop that is attached to it is a carrier to hold the spark plug wires. These are not available of course and so we will make it.

The Links

Here is something small that we deal with. We often can not source parts as they are no longer in production, new old stock is deminished, and there are not reproduced. So, we make them. Trent is our guy for making most of this stuff and it varies greatly. This example is a link that ties the chassis to a brake bias valve on the Jensen Interceptor. The torque of the rear axle will move the link and change the braking under load. Most rebuilders just leave them off. Nope.

Joe Potter

55 Chev

Well we do get the occasional domestic vehicle in the restoration shop. This is a 55 Chev convertible. Front and rear suspension rebuild, brakes system rebuild, and rear axle reseal with bearings. Kai is on this one. Nice change of pace.

Jensen Interceptor engine

Kai is at the exciting stage of placing the engine and transmission into the Jensen Interceptor. A big car but still a tight fit for this big Chrysler engine. These cars can run hot and the footwell can be hot. We are taking quite a few measures to make this Jensen bullet proof. You can see some of the heat reflecting material on the firewall. There is additional insulation on the interiors of the footwell. We have also built the engine with aluminum heads to help with heat extraction. When we received this car it has headers on it. We replaced the headers with stock manifolds and then coated those to keep more heat in the exhaust stream. Under hood temperature is a problem with these, and we have a handle on it for this build.

Jaguar XK140 and the bare necessities

Jeff and Adam are working the body of a Jaguar XK140. They are fully stripping down to bare metal, repairing cracks, remvoing lead filler. This car was not a rusty mess like some can be. It has a few areas that we need to put replacement metal into, but it should make it to epoxy sealer pretty soon.
